What is chest voice?

Share
"Chest voice" is obviously relating to our chest part, it's like when someone listen to music with the sub woofer on. So, chest voice = sub woofer. I believe that most of the people are more likely listen to a music with sub woofer instead of without one.

Same goes to vocal singing, singing without chest voice is like a a flat sound that coming out from our mouth. You may don't like it too. Here is the steps that you may follow:

  • First of all, take a deep breathe, sing with "A" pushing with your diaphragm, naturally chest voice will be produced(you may place your hand on your chest while you are practicing, a chest vibration is occurred).
It's the same with my tips "Sing with diaphragm"practice. 5 to 10 mins practice is recommended. You may found your singing either in loud or soft will definitely come together with the chest voice after few practice, we called that a complete sound or tone, which is not flat, but a nice "round tone".

In classical music, they are practicing this everyday. Some of my students ask, does this hurt or damage our voice box?
I'd say if a person are practicing by screaming without controlling, that will definitely damaged their voice box, if you follow every simple steps that I stated above, that won't hurt your voice box. It's just that simple. Practice makes perfect!
